Farm Updates

We are proud to announce that we were officially recertified as an organic farm by the California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF)! It is important to us that we continue to grow the healthiest, most sustainable, freshest fruit we can for our community and customers near and far.

We also have a new addition to our family! Welcome our newest little cutie on the farm, baby Luke! This mandarin and holiday season will be an especially memorable one.

Ordering Tips

Please keep in mind when you select your order week that shipment dates may vary depending on the weather. We only pick fruit when it is dry to ensure quality and freshness. We sell out quickly and hope to accommodate as many loyal customers as possible. Feel free to email us with questions and special requests to info@sandjmandarins.com.

Also, note that we will be closed for farm pick-ups this season. We are working toward getting our fruit to a local retailer. Please keep an eye out for an announcement soon.

Owari Satsuma Mandarins of Placer County

With its warm days, cool nights, and decomposed granite soil, Placer County is an excellent location to grow quality produce — especially our delicious, sweet, seedless, organic Owari Satsuma mandarin oranges.

Owari Satsuma mandarin trees are cold-hardy, productive, and vigorous-growing. The unique Placer County microclimate in Northern California — hot summers and short winters — provides perfect weather for the small, easy to peel citrus fruit to thrive.

In addition to the popular Owari Satsuma Mandarins, we also grow the Okitsu Wase Satsuma Mandarins, Clementines, Tangos, and late-season Pixie Mandarins. Our sweet, seedless, tree-ripened, organic mandarin oranges are hand-picked at the peak of maturity, only when they are ready to eat. This enhances their flavor, makes them sweet and juicy and very easy to peel.

  • These Mandarin oranges are the best Christmas present I’ve received in a very, very long time. There probably hasn’t been a month gone by when I wondered if I’d ever get to enjoy another “seedless tangerine” in my lifetime. Thirty-five years is a long time to wait. Had often thought of what a fool I was not to go back to my grandparents’ old house and get a graft from what I was beginning to think was a one-of-a-kind tree. In fact, I tried fifteen years ago but couldn’t find the house. Besides the nostalgia factor, they are my all-time favorite citrus. It was funny. Seeing the open box, I asked Laurie “They’re not seedless are they?” and she said yes, as soon as I started peeling one I knew my decades long quest was over. A great moment for me. My family didn’t eat a lot of fresh produce when I was a child because we lived in Alaska. When we lived in Juneau, my Dad would go down to the docks at Christmas time and splurge on a case of the most delicious oranges and my brothers would tear through them.   • Believe it or not, you made Malcolm very happy with your choice. He has fond memories from his childhood of eating what he thought were seedless tangerines from a tree in his grandparents’ yard. I have heard the story many times (as you may imagine), and he always ends it by saying he has never again been able to find seedless tangerines — or tangerines of any kind that tasted so good. Of course, the punchline to this story is that as soon as he tried one of the oranges you sent, he realized that he must have been eating mandarin oranges all those years. He was delighted to get the answer to his puzzle — and very nostalgic to recover one of the tastes of his youth.
